Ben Nguyen has landed a big name in his first fight post-UFC.
Rizin Fight Federation announced Thursday that the former UFC flyweight will take on bantamweight champion Kyoji Horiguchi at Rizin 15 on April 21. It will be a non-title bout at a catchweight of 60kg.
Ben Nguyen (17-8) announced his release from the UFC in December following his second consecutive loss at UFC Adelaide. “Ben 10” went 4-3 in the UFC, picking up notable submission wins over Tim Elliot and Ryan Benoit.
Kyoji Horiguchi (26-2) will enter the bout on an 11-fight win streak. Now a staple of the Rizin roster, he also previously competed in the UFC where he went 7-1, losing only to then-flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. In his last outing, he defeated Bellator bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell via third-round guillotine submission to win the inaugural Rizin bantamweight title.
Rizin 15 takes place at Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan, on April 21. The card will be headlined by Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Jiri Prochazka for the inaugural light heavyweight championship.
