Tai Tuivasa is set to take on a former champion on home soil.
The UFC announced Thursday that the Australian heavyweight prospect will headline UFC Adelaide against Junior dos Santos on December 2.
Tuivasa (8-0) is undefeated in his professional career and has picked up three UFC wins since his debut in November last year. In his last bout, “Bam Bam” won a unanimous decision over Andrei Arlovski in the first fight of his career to go beyond the first round.
With a personality as entertaining as his fighting style, it’s no surprise Tuivasa is being given the nudge by the UFC with a main event slot. However, dos Santos will be the 25-year-old’s biggest test to date.
The former champion and perennial heavyweight contender will look to de-rail the Tuivasa hype train. Coming off a victorious five-round contest against Blagoy Ivanov, dos Santos (19-5) has been on an inconsistent stretch as of late, netting 4-4 in his last eight fights. He will look to get his first back-to-back win since 2012 and prove too much for the up-and-comer.
UFC Adelaide (or UFC Fight Night 142) will be held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia on December 2.
