Arnold Berdon, the husband of UFC flyweight Rachael Ostovich, was arrested for second-degree attempted murder after allegedly attacking Ostovich in their family home in Waianae, Hawaii, on Sunday morning. The charge was confirmed with MMAFighting, but the incident was first reported by TMZ.
In the alleged attack, Ostovich suffered a broken orbital bone and was taken to hospital for treatment. She has since filed for and been granted a temporary restraining order against Berdon.
Per TMZ, Berdon is yet to be arraigned and remains in custody with the Honolulu Police Department. The domestic violence investigation of the incident is ongoing so the charge may ultimately change.
Ostovich’s management team, SuckerPunch Entertainment, confirmed that she will not be competing in her scheduled bout with Paige VanZant at UFC Fight Night 143 on 19 January.
Berdon, who shares a daughter with Ostovich, is a professional MMA fighter also. The bantamweight holds a 7-2 record and last competed at Titan FC 50 in June.
Ostovich, 27, has disabled comments on her Instagram account and posted a quote today which reads, “Spend time praying for people instead of talking about them.”
In August, fellow UFC flyweight Andrea Lee was involved in a domestic violence incident with her husband, Donny Aaron, where he allegedly tried to burn Lee with a cigarette and choke her during an argument. The couple have a daughter together also.
Aaron was charged with domestic violence/battery and false imprisonment, however Shreveport Police Department have been unable to apprehend him telling MMAjunkie last month that he is “still on the run”.
