Kiwi prospect Shane Young has his eyes set on an exciting featherweight talent.
He revealed his plans on the latest episode of “Frenemies”, the weekly podcast ordinarily hosted by UFC fighters Dan Hooker and Israel Adesanya on Maori Television.
Young made a special appearance in leiu of Adesanya who was attending UFC Adelaide and the UFC 234 press conference in Melbourne.
The two City Kickboxing teammates discussed the featherweight fight between Suman Mokhtarian and Sodiq Yusuff which took place this past weekend at UFC Adelaide.
“I kept a good eye on that fight,” Young said of the bout.
“Oh, you want to fight them?” Hooker replied.
“Either one of them would be fine. I actually do have a name that I’ve been thinking about for Melbourne.”
“Andre Fili, I think. Bring one of the Team Alpha Male boys down here.”
“Just call him out on the social medias.”
“On the social medias,” Young laughed, “Yeah, maybe after Volk beats up Chad Mendes. Try get one back for your teammate.”
Young (12-4) is targeting his third fight in the UFC at UFC 234 in Melbourne. In his debut last November, he lost a unanimous decision to Alexander Volkanovski, and rebounded this June at UFC Singapore with a performance-winning finish of Rolando Dy in the second round.
Fili (18-6) is not currently ranked in the featherweight division and has had 6-5 stint in the UFC. He last competed in August at UFC Lincoln where he lost a split decision to Michael Johnson.
UFC 234 takes place at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, on Sunday, February 10. The main event will feature a middleweight title bout between Australia’s first UFC champion Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum.
